Neelapattu Sanctuary
One of the largest Pelicanries in South-east Asia, Neelapattu serves as a breeding ground for more than 1500 pelicans every year. The sanctuary is also visited by several winter migratory birds, and is the breeding ground for rare and endangered species like grey pelicans, open-billed storks, little cormorants, spoonbills, white ibis, night herons etc. Neelapattu also serves as a roosting spot for birds like egrets, terns, ducks, waders etc.

Flora : The presence of a good number
of Barringtonia acutangula trees on the tank bund provides the birds their
preferred tree for perching and nesting., the surrounding reserve forest is
southern dry evergreen scrub forest.
Fauna: The reserve forest has animals
like jackal, slender loris, spotted deer, hares, snakes, tortoise, monitor
lizard etc. The tank bund area harbours a wide variety of colourful butterflies.
Birds: The list of birds found here in season
is large. Grey or spot-billed pelicans, Little cormorant, Spoonbill, Open-billed
stork, White ibis, Pied crested cuckoo, Common
hawk cuckoo etc.
