Mudumalai Sanctuary

Contiguous to the Bandipur National Park and located at the foot of the Nilgiri Hills, Mudumalai is ideal for viewing large mamals like elephants, gaur, sambar, and - if you are lucky, bear and tiger.

Area : 321sq.km.
Season : Sept-May
Flora : Primarily moist deciduous, dry deciduous, mixed forests with bamboos, naturel teak etc. Topography of the sanctuary varies from flat land to undulating open grasslands, swamps, valleys and nullahs.
Fauna : elephant, gaur, bonnet macaque, common langur, tiger, leopard, chital, dhole or Indian wild dog, panther, sloth bear, python, barking deer, four-horned antelope, otter, crocodile (mugger), malabar giant flying squirrel, sambar, hyena, wild dog, wild boar, mouse deer, spotted deer, jackal, hare, porcupine, mongoose.
Birds : peacock, grey jungle fowl, red spur fowl, grey partridge, quail, malabar whistling thrush, racket-tailed drongo, shama, magpie robin, green pigeon, little brown dove, malabar grey hornbill, bulbul, mynah, eagle, hawk, buzzard, harrier, falcon, king vulture and a variety of migatory water birds.
